An eSIM is a digital SIM that eliminates the need for a physical SIM card. With eSIM, you can quickly and easily transfer an existing cellular plan or get a new cellular plan, all digitally. You can even store multiple eSIMs on the same device and use two phone numbers at the same time. And it’s more secure - someone can’t remove the physical SIM card if your iPhone is lost or stolen. In just a few simple steps, you are ready to make calls, send messages, and browse the web.
Learn more about eSIM.

* Use of eSIM requires a wireless service plan. Not all carriers support eSIM. Use of eSIM in iPhone may be disabled when purchased from some carriers. Check with your carrier for details and restrictions. Learn more about eSIM and carriers.
  • iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro models purchased in the US or Puerto Rico don’t have a physical SIM tray and activate only using eSIM. You can activate your iPhone outside the country if your carrier supports eSIM. Learn more about using eSIM while traveling.

Roam internationally with your existing carrier

  • Carriers might include international roaming on select data plans without additional fees.
  • Alternatively, your home carrier might offer affordable travel passes or plans that you can purchase ahead of time to use in the destination you're visiting.
  • International roaming with an eSIM works the same as roaming with a physical SIM.
  • To learn more, contact your carrier.

Purchase an eSIM from a local carrier in the country or region you're visiting

  • Find carriers around the world that support eSIM on iPhone
  • If your iPhone is locked to a carrier, your iPhone operates the same as if it were using a physical SIM and can be used only by that carrier. You can add multiple eSIMs and plans through that carrier. To check if your iPhone is unlocked, go to Settings > General > About. If your iPhone is unlocked, "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock. Learn how to unlock iPhone for use with a different carrier.
  • Many carriers offer prepaid options that you can purchase from the carriers' websites or apps before you arrive, or in person after you’ve arrived, through a carrier kiosk at the airport, carrier store, or other location. Carriers will provide steps for how to activate your eSIM digitally, like with a QR code or carrier app. As with a physical SIM, depending on local regulations, you might be asked to show identification (like your passport) to purchase. These prepaid carrier options might offer more affordable local plans for data, voice, and text. Check with individual carriers for details.
  • In addition to the option of purchasing a prepaid eSIM plan, you might wish to get a postpaid account if you plan to be in another place for an extended stay (for example, if you're studying abroad, working abroad, or visiting family for a few months). Carriers around the world that support eSIM offer postpaid plans. Depending on the country or region, you might need to provide proof of local residency, an established local bank account, or credit card (as you would with a physical SIM).
  • On supported iPhone models, you can use two eSIMs at the same time. For example, you can include one eSIM for your home and another eSIM for the place you're visiting. As with a physical SIM, carrier fees might apply. Contact your carrier for information.

Purchase a prepaid data eSIM from a worldwide service provider

  • Many worldwide service providers offer prepaid data plans. These plans allow you to stay connected at home, or in over 190 countries and regions when you travel. Carriers offer plans that differ by the amount of data and duration they provide. You can also purchase a plan that is the best value for you before you travel.
  • While you're abroad, you can use a data-only eSIM as your secondary line and have two active eSIM plans on supported iPhone models.
  • The capabilities on your primary line will continue to work when you add a data-only eSIM and use it for cellular data. For example, while traveling, you might keep your primary line for your home and set up a data-only eSIM plan as the secondary line for the place you're visiting.
  • To choose your data line, go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular (or Mobile) data. You can continue to use FaceTime, iMessage, and other apps to make VoIP calls or send messages while you're traveling.
  • You can also turn data roaming on and off on your home line in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options. Carrier fees might apply.

Joint Statement between the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and TPLF

Joint Statement between the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF)

#1.  As per Article 3 of the Agreement for Lasting Peace and Permanent Cessation of Hostilities, the Representatives of the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the TPLF have agreed to announce to the people of Ethiopia and the rest of the world that after 10 days of intensive negotiations have concluded a peace agreement.

#2 We have agreed to permanently silence the guns and end the two years of conflict in northern Ethiopia.

#3 The conflict has brought a tragic degree of loss of lives and livelihoods and it is in the interest of the entire people of Ethiopia to leave this chapter of conflict behind and live in peace and harmony.

#4  It is fundamental that we reaffirmed our commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ethiopia and to upholding the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Thus, Ethiopia has only one national defense force. We have also agreed on a detailed program of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration for the TPLF combatants, taking into account the security situation on the ground.

#5 .We have agreed that the Government of Ethiopia will further enhance its collaboration with humanitarian agencies to continue expediting aid to all those in need of assistance.

#6. We have agreed to implement transitional measures that include the restoration of Constitutional order in the Tigray region, a framework for the settlement of political  differences, and a Transitional Justice Policy framework to ensure accountability, truth,  reconciliation, and healing.

#7. To start implementing these undertakings without delay, we have agreed to stop all forms of conflicts, and hostile propaganda. We will only make statements that support the expeditious implementation of the Agreement. We urge Ethiopians in the country and abroad, to support this Agreement, stop voices of division and hate, and mobilize their resources for economic recovery and a of social bonds.

#8. The Government of Ethiopia will continue the efforts to restore public services and rebuild the infrastructures of all communities affected by the conflict. Students must go to school, farmers, and pastoralists to their fields, and public servants to their offices. The Agreement requires the support of the public for its smooth implementation. This is a new and hopeful chapter in the history of the country.

#9. We express our gratitude to all actors contributing to the success of this endeavor. In particular, the African Union Commission Chairperson, the African High-Level Panel led by His Excellency former President Olusegun Obasanjo, supported by His Excellency former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and Her Excellency Dr. Phumuzile Mlalmbo, former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa. We thank the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Commissioner Bankole Adeoye and his colleagues for their tireless work during these talks. We rely on their continued support as we implement the Agreement.

#10. We thank His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of South Africa, and Her Excellency Dr. Naledi Pandor, the Minister for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa for the excellent facilities they put at the disposal of these talks and their words of encouragement to the parties towards these successful results. We are indebted for the hospitality accorded to us by  the People and Government of the Republic of South Africa.

#11. We are grateful to the people of Ethiopia for encouraging these talks and patiently waiting for the outcome. We are confident that they will embrace the results of these talks and ensure their timely implementation.

#12. Finally, we are confident that friends of Ethiopia and members of the diplomatic community will lend their support in rebuilding infrastructures in affected communities and the economic recovery of the country. We call on all types of media outlets to  support peace, reconciliation, unity, and prosperity in Ethiopia.Jointly Delivered at Pretoria, the Republic of South Africa, on 2nd November 2022.
