Corrected Heat Map: African-Origin Players at the 2026 World Cup
This version removes the earlier provisional diaspora counts from the total and only counts what can be verified directly from official squad representation.
Method used in this corrected version
Counted: a player is counted here only if he is in an official 26-player squad representing an African national team: Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, or Tunisia.
Not counted yet: players on non-African national teams who may have African birthplace, African parents, or African heritage. Those require individual citations from reliable biographies, interviews, club/federation pages, or reputable reporting.
Important: Haiti and Curaçao may be important Afro-diaspora football stories, but they are not counted as “1st/2nd generation originated from Africa” unless each player has a specific documented Africa-origin source.
