Ethiopian Airlines Group reported a record revenue of USD 7.04 billion in the 2023/24 fiscal year, transporting 17.1 million passengers and over 754,000 tons of cargo across five continents. The Group’s operating profit reached USD 1.05 billion, reflecting strong demand and efficient operations.
The fleet now exceeds 145 aircraft with an average age of seven years, one of the youngest in Africa. During the fiscal year, 13 aircraft were phased in, and Ethiopian placed historic orders exceeding 100 new aircraft, including being the first African airline to order Boeing 777X.

Route expansion included new services to London–Gatwick, Madrid, Bangui, Freetown, and Maun. On the cargo side, Ethiopian launched dedicated freighter services to Casablanca and now serves 69 cargo destinations worldwide. Domestically, new terminals and airfield projects were inaugurated in Jinka, Gode, Robe, and Nekemte, while the Addis Ababa Domestic Terminal’s capacity more than doubled.
Ethiopian also inaugurated Africa’s first dedicated e‑commerce logistics facility in early 2024, aiming to position Addis Ababa as a continental hub for cross‑border e‑commerce. Digital upgrades—from self‑check‑in kiosks and self‑bag drop to broader payment options—continued to streamline the passenger journey.
The Group collected a string of global honors, including Skytrax “Best Airline in Africa” 2024 (seventh consecutive year), APEX “Best Entertainment in Africa” and “Best Wi‑Fi in Africa”, and the Arabian Cargo Awards “Best Cargo Airline – Africa”. The Government of Ethiopia also presented the Ethiopian Institutional Achievement Award for the airline’s pivotal role during the pandemic.
Sustainability efforts advanced with a 30% SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) demonstration flight and an ISO‑14001‑certified environmental management system, underscoring a long‑term net‑zero by 2050 pathway.
The workforce stood at 17,591 employees as of June 2024, with growing gender representation and ongoing investments in leadership and technical training through Ethiopian Aviation University, which graduated nearly 3,000 professionals during the period.
