Important Information
Processing times vary throughout the year. Check current processing times before applying. Most routine applications take 6-8 weeks, while expedited service takes 2-3 weeks (plus mailing time).
Passport Services
First-time applicants or those who haven't had a passport since age 16
- Complete Form DS-11
- Provide proof of U.S. citizenship
- Present valid ID
- Submit passport photo
- Pay applicable fees
For those who can renew by mail using Form DS-82
- Complete Form DS-82
- Submit your most recent passport
- Provide a new passport photo
- Pay renewal fees
- Name change documentation if applicable
If your passport has been lost or stolen
- Complete Form DS-64 (Statement Regarding Lost/Stolen Passport)
- Complete Form DS-11 for replacement
- Submit additional documentation
- Report the loss immediately
For land and sea travel between U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Caribbean
- Cannot be used for international air travel
- Convenient wallet-sized card
- Apply using Form DS-11 or DS-82
- Lower fee than passport book
Special requirements for children's passports
- Both parents/guardians must appear in person
- Complete Form DS-11
- Provide evidence of relationship
- Submit parental identification
- Provide child's citizenship evidence
Consular Report of Birth Abroad for U.S. citizens born outside the U.S.
- Apply for Consular Report of Birth Abroad
- Document U.S. citizenship at birth
- Apply for first U.S. passport
- Submit at U.S. embassy or consulate
