From our experience most people think there is a language called Ethiopia. We know they are referring to Amharic. But what makes them think there is a language called Ethiopia? It is obvious there is a language called French for France, German for Germany, Spanish for Spain, Chinese for China, Japanese for Japan and so on, but there is no a language called American, Canadian or Saudi Arabian. So where the mix up comes from? We think it is a lazy way of thinking or assuming each county has a language named after its name. So we will take this opportunity to give some lesson for people they think the same patter will not go for all the time for language vs. county's name.
For example for countries who uses Spanish as their official language but they are called different are Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Chili are few best examples. The same goes to Arabic language whose name is different form the language are counties such as Egypt, Qatar or Emirates are best examples . There will be several examples for this topic but we think for now you get the point. The same goes to Ethiopia. Ethiopia is multilingual and multicultural country. In Ethiopia there are more than 70 kind of languages but there is no a single language called Ethiopian. However, the official language of Ethiopia is Amharic. Some of Ethiopian languages are Ge'ez, Oromo, Tigirgna, Afar, Guragegna, Harari, Wolayta, Afar, Sidama, Agew, Somali and Nuer are the few .
