"The Wise Judge"
In a bustling Ethiopian town, there was a wise and respected judge named Dinku. People from far and wide sought his guidance in settling disputes and resolving conflicts. Dinku was known for his impartiality, fairness, and ability to see through deception.
One day, two farmers named Kadir and Birhan came before Judge Dinku with a quarrel. Both farmers claimed ownership of a fertile piece of land that they had been cultivating for years. The dispute had escalated to the point where they could no longer work together peacefully.
Judge Dinku listened attentively as Kadir and Birhan presented their cases, each trying to convince him of their rightful claim to the land. After hearing their arguments, the judge paused for a moment and then proposed a solution.
He suggested that the land be divided into two equal portions, with each farmer receiving one half. However, he added a condition. He asked Kadir to divide the land, and Birhan would have the privilege of choosing which half he wanted.
Kadir, confident that he could outsmart Birhan, agreed to the judge's proposal. He divided the land into two portions, making one portion significantly larger than the other. He thought this would surely give him the advantage.
With a smile, Judge Dinku turned to Birhan and said, "It is now your turn to choose which portion you would like for yourself."
Birhan, knowing that Kadir had likely tried to deceive him, carefully observed the two portions. He then made his choice and pointed to the smaller piece of land.
Surprised by Birhan's decision, Kadir protested, arguing that the larger portion should rightfully be his. But Judge Dinku intervened and explained his reasoning.
He praised Birhan's wisdom and integrity, stating that by choosing the smaller portion, he had shown his commitment to fairness and harmony. In doing so, Birhan had proven himself to be the rightful owner of the land. The judge also reprimanded Kadir for his attempt to manipulate the situation, emphasizing the importance of honesty and respect.
The wise judgment of Judge Dinku brought resolution to the dispute and restored peace between the two farmers. From that day forward, Kadir and Birhan worked together harmoniously, sharing the land and prospering as neighbors and friends.
"The Wise Judge" teaches us the importance of fairness, integrity, and wise decision-making. It reminds us of the power of unbiased judgment and the significance of treating others with respect and honesty. The tale highlights the transformative impact of wise leadership in resolving conflicts and fostering harmony within a community.
