Overview
This chapter of the American Inventos series covers the large G, H, I, J and K section of major inventors. The group includes pioneers of public health, food preservation, rockets, global navigation, computing, wireless communication, medical devices, chemical manufacturing, photography, semiconductors, industrial machines and household products. Some of these inventors are American-born, some were immigrants, and some were international inventors whose work became deeply connected to American industry and daily life.
Several themes stand out. In medicine, inventors such as Robert Gallo, John Gibbon, Wilson Greatbatch, Maurice Hilleman, Godfrey Hounsfield, David Huang, Katalin Karikó and Willem Kolff helped change diagnosis, surgery, vaccination and life support. In computing and communication, names such as Jaap Haartsen, Martin Hellman, Herman Hollerith, Erna Schneider Hoover, Robert Kahn, Joseph Jacobson and Jack Kilby helped build the world of connected digital systems. In materials and chemistry, Charles Goodyear, Robert Gore, Fritz Haber, Charles Martin Hall, Stephanie Kwolek, William Kroll and others created processes or materials that made whole industries possible.
The image approach remains conservative. The file uses public-domain or public-archive image links where they are reasonably safe and leaves modern inventors text-only when a clearly safe public-domain portrait is not available. This avoids using copyrighted portraits while still giving the page real historical images.
