ጥምቀት በአሜሪካ:- A home away home

Well, with full confidence  I can tell I have been a regular TIMKET  fan for life. When I had my first Timket in Los Angeles it was in the 1990th, now  Timket is growing despite some up and down bumps.  It is getting better and better every year. Yes, now Timket is growing every year you need to have your cell phone to find someone in case you got lost. I started taking Timket when there was no digital camera. At that time I had only film camera. Now things are too easy and much cheaper also much faster.

I would not say too much but simply it is a home away home.

Califonia Call 511. When your car is brreakindown in Freeway.

Worth Sharing:
True Story.

This happened in California .

California is big. It is too big it can be a county by itself. I heard some people are thinking to break state apart into 3 parts. Today my story is not about its size or breaking it apart,  but about highway safety.  Today I was in position to call 411, 611 and 911.  For my three digit phone number phone book list also  I was able to know the use of 511. Please read this story because it may save your life.If you can share it. Here is the story

After celebrating our Timket in Los Angeles we decided to add one more day to see Los Angeles (LA) area and we spent one more  night in LA. We (the whole family ) had a wonderful time in LA. We visited Beverley Hills , Holly Wood, Little Ethiopia,  Korea Town, Down Town, Staples Center,  the Fashion Districts  and then we headed to home via  Freeway 5. Since it was kind of holiday the traffic was light, we had little bit traffic in Anaheim and Irvine area  but the rest was our drive had very nice drive. I was the driver and I was driving the fast left line. Remember the freeway is to wide it has more than 7 lines in one direction and most drivers are speeding by more than 75 MPH( Mile Per Hour)  suddenly when I was around Mission Vajio I heard a loud scratching noise under the car. I soon as I heard that noise I slowed down and  parked in the car in the left dividing line. Since I was in the far side and can not move the car the the far right.
I thought I had flat tire. I pulled over the car to the left and turn on my emergency light. Since I heard very bad traffic accidents happened to my own friends in the past I remain calm in the car and I did the following.

First I don't want call police and want to call non-emergency phone line. Since I was in the middle of freeway I did not know where I was parked. So, I called 411 (directory) they gave me the High Way Patrol (CHP) number. But it was press one and press two thing. They I hung up and decided to call 911. They asked me where I was. Since I was in the middle of freeway I did not have any idea what  exit I was. Luckily  I had my GPS and I was able to pin point my exact location, while I was talking to the 911 operator a tow truck showed up from no where.

Remember, we were parked in the shoulder of the freeway (left side) every car was driving 80+ per hour. Th two truck driver backed up slowly and the driver came with flash light. Oh, forgot this, it was night time. The driver checked my car and said the car is Ok. I told him I heard loud noise and I fee like I had a flat tire.

He then checked under the car and found a piece of long wire. He said " That was the problem" but  he told me we had a problem on the tire Then he become our shield and I drove the car to the nearest gas station .

Then he came and showed me that piece of wire was from my tire. Then he asked me if I have spare tire and I said yes. But before he started working on the car I just asked. I have this "Road Hazard!" insurance and want to know how much it will be to change the tire. He said his service is Free!
I could not believed my ears and asked him for the second time " how much?" he said "FREE" this time my heartbeat was stabilizing. Then he started the job. He took out the spare tire and replaced the old tire. He check the air pressure for all  tires.

I asked him how he showed up there. He said he was going to home after end of his work shift and saw out car from the opposite side  the free way and he made a  turn just to help us. He was a nice person. I asked him " Who is paying for his service?"
He said his company has a contact from the state and that will be where he will get the money . Latter he told us next time to call 511 when we have a highway emergency. I promised I will share the story with my  family and friends. He gave me a brochure and I asked  him to give me more and will give it too all friends. That is why you are reading my story.

By the way the tow track driver name was  Chris. I told his you are Christian and he said  "That is my name!"
He was a true christian. I think every county should have the 511 service

Ethiopian Airlines posts record 3.15 billion birr profit

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopian Airlines Aviation Group made a record high profit of 3.15 billion birr in the 2013-2014 fiscal year that ended in June 2014.

The net profit is the highest the airline made in its 69 year history and surpassed the net profit it bagged last year by 53 percent. Last fiscal year the airline made a net profit of 2.3 billion birr. According to information obtained from the airline, the national flag carrier generated 46.5 billion birr operating revenue, up by 21 percent. The airline transported six million passengers and 187,000 tons of cargo in the budget year, a surge of 13 and seven percent respectively. In the 2013-2014 fiscal year the airline phased in 13 new jetliners and opened nine new destinations.

A senior official at Ethiopian told The Reporter that the airline managed to make a record high profit at a turbulent time. The economic recession in Europe, fuel price hike, and the Ebola Virus outbreak in West Africa are some of the critical challenges Ethiopian Airlines and other international airlines faced. The flag carrier recently announced that it was losing eight million dollars in sales every month due to the Ebola pandemic that scared away passengers from traveling to Africa.

The official attributed the remarkable performance of the airline to the implementation of a right business strategy stipulated in the Vision 2025, the airlines 15 growth plan, and the hard work of the management and employees of the airline. “It was a very successful year for the airline,” the official said.

Ethiopian Epiphany

Ethiopian Epiphany in North America will be celebrated in Los Angeles

Addis Ababa - Tokyo nonstop by Ethiopian Airlines

Ethiopian Airlines (ET) is stretching its wings, to be precise the wings of one of their new B787 Dreamliners, to Japan come April this year. A statement seen from the airline confirms that preparations for the launch of flights between Addis Ababa and Tokyo Narita, via Hong Kong, are complete. The airline will initially serve the route three times a week and establish the first direct flight link between Japan and Africa, and flights will be codeshared with Star Alliance partner All Nippon Airways.

“It is obvious that these guys not just see opportunities but take them. Being the first on the route will give them pole position in uplifting traffic from Japan not just to Addis but into their entire African network. And as you never fail to point out, that network is the widest any airline has. Star Alliance must be proud of such a star pupil among their ranks. For us in Kenya, it is again coming late on that lucrative market. We are behind ET across India and Asia, and I wonder what went wrong with us here. Our airline posts massive losses, and ET expands and grows and makes profits? And then your slap this morning about failed corporate communication strategies but true enough, we have lost massive ground over the past year or so,” commented a regular source on how Kenyan aviators feel when they read such success stories.

“Ethiopian is the one to watch,” wrote another source when tossing ideas around earlier today after also reading that ET was to launch flights to Goma/Eastern Congo via Entebbe.

In a related development, Ethiopian has also confirmed that they have agreed on an expanded codeshare agreement with Star Alliance partner Air India, which will benefit both airlines with added destinations in India and across Africa.

Star Alliance counts three members in Africa - Ethiopian, Egypt Air, and South African - which in terms of fleet and passengers carried, constitute the three largest airlines. Skyteam comes in at a distant second, with Kenya Airways being the only alliance member in Africa, while OneWorld has not a single member on the African continent, though is active with flights to Africa by such members as Qatar Airways and to a much lesser extent British Airways.

First airline in Africa to own and operate the B787 Dreamliner Full Flight Simulator

Continuing with its aviation technology leadership in Africa, Ethiopian, the largest and most profitable airline of the continent, is pleased to announce that it has acquired the first ever B-787 Dreamliner full flight simulator in Africa. The installation and build-up of the full flight simulator is in progress at Ethiopian's main hub in Addis Abab,a and the first pilot training in the B-787 flight simulator will start in March, 2015.

Ethiopian was the first airline in the world outside Japan to receive and operate the B- 787 Dreamliner in August 2012. Currently, the airline is the largest operator of the B-787 in Africa. With the installation of the B-787 flight simulator, Ethiopian will be the first in Africa to give full flight simulator training for pilots on the B-787 aircraft.

CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam, said “We are continually investing in developing our training capability. With installation of the B-787 Flight Simulator, we will be fully self-sufficient in providing in-house training for our pilots on the B-787 aircraft, which has become our core fleet on our mid and long range routes.

Over the last 4 years, we have invested $ 80 million in expanding both the scope and scale of our Academy. In line with our 15 years strategic roadmap Vision 2025, we will continue to invest heavily on our Academy with the objective of increasing its annual in-take capacity to from currently 1,000 trainees to about 4,000 by 2025.”
Ethiopian already provides full flight simulator training for pilots on the Q-400, the B737, the B757 and the B767.

Breaking News: British MPs to visit Ethiopia in bid to secure release of Andy Tsege

A delegation of British MPs will visit Ethiopia next month in a bid to secure the release of Andargachew "Andy" Tsege, a British father of three who is under a death sentence.
Mr Tsege, 59, a leading critic of the Ethiopian government who came to Britain as a political refugee more than 30 years ago, has been held in solitary confinement for the past six months.
He vanished during a stopover in Yemen last June, during a trip from Dubai to Eritrea, in what campaigners say was a politically motivated kidnapping. Weeks later it emerged he had been imprisoned in Ethiopia.
His precise whereabouts remain unknown.
The Briton, who is the secretary-general of a banned Ethiopian opposition movement, is facing a death sentence imposed at a trial held in his absence in 2009.
The announcement of the visit by British Parliamentarians, yesterday, is in stark contrast to the efforts of Prime Minister David Cameron, whose response to desperate pleas for help from Mr Tsege’s family last year was to write a letter to Ethiopia’s Prime Minister.
Jeremy Corbyn, vice-chair, the All Party Parliamentary Group on Human Rights, and Mr Tsege’s constituency MP, will lead the delegation. “He is a British citizen so there is no reason on earth why the British government should not take a very robust view on this,” he said. His constituent is “a British national in prison with no understandable, comprehensible or acceptable legal process that’s put him there.”

And Clive Stafford-Smith, director, Reprieve, who will accompany the MPs to Ethiopia, said: “I think Mr Cameron doesn’t understand how serious this is. I think that Andy is going to be seen, as the years go by, as Ethiopia’s Nelson Mandela.”
Campaigners fear that Mr Tsege is being tortured and concern is mounting for his wellbeing. His sister Bezuaybhu said: “He’s in his cell for 24 hours a day, with an electric light, he’s having no exercise, he’s not having contact with anybody – so if this is not torture what is it?” Her brother has been “kidnapped, detained illegally” and should be brought back to Britain, she added.
In a statement a Foreign Office spokesperson said: “The Ethiopians have not allowed us further access than the two consular visits on 11 August and 19 December, though we continue in our efforts to secure this.” The British government is “deeply concerned” about his detention and is “pressing  the Ethiopian authorities” not to carry out the death penalty, they added.
Six months after his capture, Mr Tsege’s family is finding it increasingly hard to cope. His partner Yemi Hailemariam, mother of their three children, said: “We are very ordinary family caught up in this very extraordinary problem and we just don’t know how to get ourselves out of it.” She added: “It just breaks my heart to think he will be celebrating his 60th birthday in three weeks’ time in prison.”
The only contact she has had in six months was a short telephone call Mr Tsege made last month. “He primarily focused on the kids saying that I should not give them false hope. I told him to keep well and strong. He said he is fine. I asked him where he was, he said he was still there [Ethiopia],” she told The Independent.
“It is very, very, difficult to keep things going; I do have my low points. I try just to block a lot of things out and just keep ploughing away - that's how I'm trying to cope with it,” said Ms Hailemariam.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Ethiopian Embassy, London, claimed that Mr Tsege belongs to a “terrorist organization” seeking to “overthrow the legitimate government of Ethiopia.” He is being “well treated” and “torture is inhumane and has no place in modern Ethiopia,” they added.
Yet a recent report by Amnesty International revealed how political activists have been tortured and killed by the Ethiopian security forces in recent years.
