 The Battle of Adwa, 1896: On March 1st & 2nd of 1896, warriors, farmers and women defeated a well-armed Italian army in the northern town of Adwa in Ethiopia. 

The outcome of this battle ensured Ethiopia's independence, making it the only African country never to be colonised. The Battle of Adwa was fought over two days (1st / 2nd March) between the Mighty Ethiopian forces under the Command of The Emperor Menelik II, and invading Italian forces. 

It was the deciding battle in the First Italo-Ethiopian war and a turning point in modern African history with a European Colonial power being defeated and Ethiopia being recognized as a sovereign nation state by the European powers. 

Many newspapers around the world portrayed the Ethiopians as white, because they did not want to reveal that an army of Black warriors had won such a decisive battle against a white army.

The Ethiopians also took trained "Battle Lions" and other dangerous animals and insects such as bees, wasps, elephants and cheetahs into the fight as weapons. 

These animals, which the Italian army did not expect, and could not stop, accounted for scores of Italian kills. The Italian forces were led by losing General Oreste Baraterie. His plan was to engage the Ethiopians in piecemeal battles and carve them up without facing their main force in a set piece battle.

 The Ethiopians on the other had planned to use their advantage in infantry and artillery to smash the main Italian force in one battle. The Battle of Adwa was a crushing defeat for Italy and the Ethiopians followed that up by driving the bloodied retreating Italians into Eritrea and out of the area entirely.

 As a result of the massive defeat, The Treaty of Addis Abba was signed on the 26th of October, 1896 . It ended the war and the Italians recognized Ethiopian independence.

ONovember 13, 2015 The 22nd FIFA World Cup is being hosted by Qatar.

 Qatar will prepare eight stadiums for the World Cup matches, seven of which are brand new.

 Among the newly built stadiums, there are 974 stadiums.

 It got its name because it was made from 974 recycled shipping containers.

 In addition, the name of the stadium is associated with the fact that Qatar's telephone number starts with +974.

 The concept of the stadium was developed by an architectural design firm called 'Fenwick Iriberan Architects'.

 Some of the containers have financial services and parking.

 Qatar plans to sell the stadium's shipping containers and seats, which began construction in 2018 and will be completed in 2021, to other countries after the World Cup.

 This makes Stadium 974 the first temporary stadium in FIFA World Cup history.

 The opening ceremony will be held at the Al Bait Stadium, 51 kilometers from the capital Doha.

 Al Beit Stadium has a capacity of about 60 thousand spectators.

ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ የአዲስ አበበ መለያ እስከመሆን የደረሰ እና በየዓመቱ  በጉጉት የሚጠበቅ ውድድር እስከመሆን ደርሷል። በአትሌት ሻለቃ ኃይሌ ገብረስላሴ ከ1994 ዓ.ም ተጀምሮ ለሁለት አስርት ዓመታት የዘለቀው የ10 ኪሎ ሜትር ሩጫ ውድድር ታላቅ የጎዳና ላይ የብዙኃን ትርኢት ስምና ዝና አትርፎ በዓለም ላይ ካሉት ውድድሮች አንዱ ለመሆን በቅቷል።

በኢትዮጵያ የስፖርት ቱሪዝም ከፍተኛ አስተዋፅኦ እያበረከተ የሚገኘው “ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ” በአገሪቱ በተለያዩ ከተሞች ከ100 በላይ ውድድሮችን በተሳካ ሁኔታ ለማድረግ ችሏል።

በአዲስ አበባ ከተማ የቱሪስት መስህብ ከሆኑ ሁነቶች አንዱ የሆነው እና በናፍቆት የሚጠበቀው “ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ” ሲካሄድ በቆየባቸው 20 ዓመታት በተሳታፊዎች መካከል ደማቅ ወዳጅነት እንዲመሰረት በማድረግ የመዲናዋ አንዱ የመዝናኛ አማራጭ ሆኖ ማገልገሉን ቀጥሏል።

40 ሺህ የሚደርሱ ብዝሃ ስብጥር ያላቸው ተሳታፊዎች ያሉት ውድድሩ ሁሉም በአንድነት፣ በደስታ፣ በተለያዩ መርሆዎች በስኬት ሲካሄድ ቆይቶ ዛሬ ለደረሰበት ደረጃ በቅቷል።  

ውድድሮቹ በ8 ዓይነት ዘርፍ የሚካሄዱ ሲሆን፣ የተሳታፊዎች ቁጥርም ከጊዜ ወደ ጊዜ እያደገ መጥቶ በአንድ ጊዜ እስከ 40 ሺህ ተወዳዳሪዎችን ለማሳተፍ የቻለ ታላቅ አገራዊ ትእይንት ለመሆን በቅቷል።

ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ ኃላ.የተ.የግ.ማ ቋሚ ሰራተኞቹ እና አዘጋጅ ቡድኖቹ ሙሉ በሙሉ በኢትዮጵያውያን የተደራጀ ሲሆን ከተለያዩ አጋሮቹ ጋር በመሆን የውድድር እና ተያይዞም አጋሮቹን የማስተዋወቅ ዘመቻዎች ላይ በስፋት እየሰራ ይገኛል።

ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ ከአገር ውስጥም አልፎ በጋና የሚሊኒየም ማራቶን እና በደቡብ ሱዳን ጁባ ታላቁ የደቡብ ሱዳን ሩጫን ጨምሮ በተለያዩ የአፍሪካ ውድድሮች ላይ የማማከር ሚና ወስዶ ሲሰራ ቆይቷል።

“ሩጫን ለሁሉም ሰው የአኗኗር ዘይቤ ማድረግ!” የሚለውን እንደ ራዕይ ይዞ የሚንቀሳቀሰው ድርጅቱ፣ከፍተኛ ጥራት ያላቸውን የጅምላ ተሳትፎ ውድድሮችን በማዘጋጀት የኢትዮጵያን ገጽታ ማሳደግ፣ ጤናማ ኑሮና ጠቃሚ ማህበራዊ መልዕክቶችን ማስተዋወቅ እና ለወጣት አትሌቶች የመወዳደሪያ መድረክ በመፍጠር የዓለም አቀፍ ውድድሮች ላይ የሚሳተፉበትን ዕድል የመፍጠር ተልዕኮ ይዞ እየተንቀሳቀሰ ይገኛል።

በዚህም ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ ለ11 ጊዜ የግማሽ ማራቶን ሩጫ ውድድር በውቧ ሐዋሳ ከተማ ያካሄደ ሲሆን “ቅድሚያ ለሴቶች 5 ኪ.ሜ” ውድድር ደግሞ ከ2004 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ለ19 ጊዜ ከ100 ሺህ በላይ እድሜያቸው ከ5 እስከ 75 የሚሆኑ ሴቶችን ያሳተፈ ውድድር አድርጓል።

በተጨማሪም ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ “የእንጦጦ ፓርክ ፕሬዲተር ሩጫ” በሚል 700 ሰዎች ብቻ የሚሳተፉበት ውድድር ውብ በሆነው የእንጦጦ የተፈጥሮ ፓርክ ውስጥ በየወሩ ያከናውናል።

ሌላው ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ የሚታወቀው በየአመቱ በሚያካሂደው “የፕሌይማተርስ የልጆች ሩጫ ውድድር” ነው። ይህ ውድድር እስካሁን ለ14 ጊዜ የተካሄደ ሲሆን የ15ኛው ውድድር ህዳር 10፣ 2015 ዓ.ም እንደሚካሄድ የወጣው መርሃ ግብር ያሳያል።

ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ የ2015 ዓ.ም ሶፊ ማልት ታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ የ10 ኪ.ሜ ውድድሩን የፊታችን እሁድ ህዳር 11 ቀን 2015 ዓ.ም  ይካሄደል፤ይህን የሁለት አስርት ዓመታት ዕድሜ ያለውን የታላቁ ሩጫ በኢትዮጵያ ውድድር ከጥንስሱ ጀምሮ በቀጥታ ስርጭት ወደ ታዳሚያኑ ሲያስተላልፍ የነበረው የኢትዮጵያ ብሮድካስቲንግ ኮርፖሬሽን  የፊታችን እሁድም ሰፊ ሽፋን ለመስጠት ዝግጅቱን አጠናቋል፡፡

የባሕር ዳር ከተማ አስተዳደር 430 ብስክሌቶችን በነፃ ለመንግሥት ሠራተኞች አስተላልፏል። 

ይህም የትራንስፖርት ችግሮችን ከማቃለል ባሻገር የጭስ አልባ ሞተር ትራንስፖርትን ለማስፋፋት ጠቀሜታው የጎላ መሆኑን የባሕር ዳር ከተማ ተቀዳሚ ምክትል ከንቲባ ዶ/ር ድረስ ሳህሉ በርክክቡ ወቅት ገልጸዋል። 

የብስክሌት ድጋፉ በባሕር ዳር ከተማ የብስክሌት አብዮትን ለማቀጣጠልም የሚያግዝ ነው ብለዋል። 

በቀጣይም ተጨማሪ ከ400 በላይ ብስክሌቶች ለመንግሥት ሠራተኞች እንደሚተላለፉ ተገልጿል።

 Bahir Dar City Administration has handed over 430 bicycles to government workers for free.

 Apart from alleviating transport problems, it is important to promote smokeless motor transport, said the first deputy mayor of Bahir Dar, Dr. Sahlu, during the handover.

 He said that the bicycle support will also help fuel the bicycle revolution in Bahir Dar city.

 It is further stated that more than 400 bicycles will be handed over to government employees.
