In 2006, Suárez moved to the Netherlands to play for Groningen in the Eredivisie. Suárez transferred to Ajax in 2007. In 2008–09 he was named Ajax Player of the Year. The following year, he was made the club captain, became the league's top scorer with 35 goals in 33 games, and was named Dutch Footballer of the Year. He scored 49 goals in all competitions and Ajax won the KNVB Cup. In the 2010–11 season, he scored his one hundredth Ajax goal, joining a group of players including Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp in doing so.
Suárez represented Uruguay in the 2007 U-20 World Cup. In the 2010 World Cup, he played an important role in Uruguay's fourth place finish and scored three goals, and infamously blocked an extra time goalbound header with his hands during the quarter finals against Ghana. At the 2011 Copa América, Suárez scored four goals for Uruguay as they won a record fifteenth Copa América and was named Player of the Tournament.[6] On 23 June 2013, he became Uruguay's all-time record goalscorer with 35 goals. In December 2013, Suárez was ranked by The Guardian as the ninth-best player in the world.

World Cup 2014: Chile Eliminates Defending Champion Spain
The victory guaranteed progression to the knockout round of 16 for Chile. The result also meant that the Netherlands could celebrate early qualification after securing a 3-2 triumph over Australia in the day's first match. Chile will play the Netherlands on Monday to decide which team will top Group B, while Spain will face Australia in a game that is now largely meaningless for both sides.
Eduardo Vargas opened the scoring for Chile against Spain in the 20th minute after an interchange down the right flank between Alexis Sánchez and Arturo Vidal. Charles Aránguiz then cut the ball back, and Vargas kept his cool to round Iker Casillas and prod the ball home.
Just before half time, Aránguiz doubled Chile's lead after an error from Casillas, who could only punch a weak free kick from Sánchez back into the danger area. Aránguiz took a touch and punted the ball into the back of the net.
Spain had characteristically long periods of possession, but created few clear-cut chances for either Diego Costa or his substitute Fernando Torres as Chile's high-tempo pressing smothered the Spanish midfield.
Defeat for Spain meant it became the third reigning champion to be knocked out in the group stage in the last four World Cups. France dropped out at the same stage in 2002, with Italy going the same way in 2010.

Several states and the federal government offer $50,000 per year for people wrongly convicted in federal court. Why is that such a common figure?
Federal payments were set by a law passed a decade ago. At that time, Alabama had the highest compensation at $50,000 per year, so the feds simply decided to match that, according to Stephen Saloom, policy director at the Innocence Project. Other states may have followed the lead of the federal government.
"There doesn't seem to be any other rationale behind the number," said Paul Cates, also at the Innocence Project.
One other interesting idea: States that pay the wrongfully convicted might actually be trying to save money, according to Brandon Garrett, University of Virginia law professor and author of .
That's because people who are exonerated can sue states — and sometimes win awards on the order of $1 million per year of imprisonment, Garrett says.
In many states, people who are exonerated have to give up their right to sue in order to collect the set payment.
Policymakers may have decided that it's better for states "to encourage people to take more moderate compensation early on and maybe forgo the multimillion-dollar lawsuit," Garrett says.
