Routes to Russia 2018 revealed at Preliminary Draw (FIFA)
The road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ has been laid out for 141 teams from across the globe as St Petersburg's Konstantin Palace hosted a dramatic and star-studded Preliminary Draw.
A global audience of approximately 94.8 million tuned in as the spectacular show, hosted by Dmitry Shepelev and supermodel Natalia Vodianova, blended football with some of the best in Russian music and culture. The draw itself - overseen by Jérôme Valcke, FIFA's Secretary General - also produced its fair share of fireworks, with Spain-Italy and Chile-Brazil on the first South American matchday just a couple of the mouth-watering games left to tantalise the beautiful game's billions of fans.
Words of welcome
All of those enthusiasts had earlier been promised the warmest of welcomes by Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, who kicked off proceedings by addressing the 2,000 guests and viewers from across the world. "Our country has a long-standing football history and the World Cup will definitely enhance the game's reputation," said Putin. "This is a tournament that will be wonderful not only for Russia but for all our neighbouring countries. It is Russia's great pleasure to be hosting the World Cup, which will offer a great chance to show our country's many faces to the world."
FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter also expressed his excitement about the tournament, although he sought to shift the focus - for now at least - to the eagerly awaited preliminaries. "This is an important day in the long and winding road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup," said Blatter. "The tournament is very much on track and Russia will be fantastic hosts. But first a much longer competition must take place, lasting no less than 33 months, with over 850 matches taking place. And when all's said and done, we will know the teams that will compete in Russia."
The draw process was interlaced with entertaining performances, the first of which came when the Terem-Quartet and artists and football jugglers from the Leningrad Centre brought a uniquely Russian flavour to a well-known western pop song. 'Get the Party Started' proved a fitting theme, too, because the main event began to unfold immediately afterwards, with the Intercontinental Play-off draw pitting CONCACAF against AFC, leaving OFC's hopefuls to face an opponent from the CONMEBOL region.
This was the only aspect of the draw which concerned teams in Asia, where qualifying is already underway. Tribute was paid, nonetheless, to two of the continent's great early success stories, with Valcke highlighting the momentous wins enjoyed by both Bhutan and Guam.
Big names and big challenges
Rinat Dasayev, Soviet goalkeeping legend, and Cameroon icon Samuel Eto'o, then assisted FIFA's Secretary-General in setting out the route for Africa's 2018 contenders, with Somalia having the honour of being the first team picked out in this Preliminary Draw. And while the big guns will only meet later in the process, the first and second round ties look set to include some David and Goliath-style meetings, with Nigeria set to face the winner of a tie between Swaziland and Djibouti, the continent's lowest-ranked nation.
Next up, via a rendition of 'Podmoskovnye Vechera' by opera singers Hibla Gerzmava and Vasily Gerello, it was the turn of teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean to learn the first of their qualifying opponents. This part of the process, led by Italian World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro and beach soccer icon Madjer, left USA and Mexico paired with Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras respectively in Round 4, while CONCACAF Gold Cup finalists Jamaica must first negotiate a third-round tie with Nicaragua.
Oceania's teams would have been feeling nervous by this stage, although they were soothed before their section of the draw by the beauty and elegance of two dancers performing an excerpt of Boris Eifman's ballet Anna Karenina to music by Tchaikovsky. Alexey Smertin and Predrag Rajkovic, captain of Serbia's FIFA U-20 World Cup winners, then assisted Valcke in laying out the continent's groups, one of which pitted top-ranked New Zealand against Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu.
Heavyweight clashes in South America, Europe
The honour of conducting South America's draw fell thereafter to two of the continent's striking greats: Ronaldo and Diego Forlan. In this region, where every team does battle within the same group, the opening-day matches were the centre of attention, and O Fenômeno admitted to fearing for Brazil after they were handed a trip to Copa America champions Chile.
The main draw concluded with sights turned to Europe, although only after the guests had been treated to an up-tempo Football Medley by the World Jazz Stars. The musicians were then replaced on stage by Aleksandr Kerzhakov and Oliver Bierhoff, who helped lay out the task facing the 52 teams in a continent with 13 slots up for grabs.
Gasps swiftly followed, with Spain and Italy - winners in 2010 and 2006 respectively - drawn together in Group G, with other pairings including France and the Netherlands and the oldest international rivalry of all: England-Scotland. Defending champions Germany, meanwhile, will face the first challenges to their crown against the likes of Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and Norway.
And, with that, it was over. Polina Gagarina provided the final musical treat for the 2000 guests, while fans from across the world - some delighted, some dismayed - were left to pore over the draw and what it means for their teams' chances of reaching Russia 2018.

(BBC) US President Barack Obama has warned that Africa will not advance if its leaders refuse to step down when their terms end.
He also called for an end to the “cancer of corruption”, saying it took money away from development .
Mr Obama made the comments in the first ever address by a US leader to the 54-member AU at its headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The address marked the climax of Mr Obama’s five-day trip to Africa.
He visited Kenya and Ethiopia, the headquarters of the AU.
African leaders should respect their constitutions, and step down when their term ends.
Violence in Burundi following President Pierre Nkurunziza’s bid for a third term showed how stability could be threatened if constitutional rules were ignored, he said.
“Nobody should be president for life,” Mr Obama said.
“I don’t understand why people want to stay so long, especially when they have got a lot of money,” he added.
Democracy existed in name but not in substance when journalists were jailed and activists were threatened, he said.
Corruption was “draining billions of dollars” from Africa, he added.
The money could be used to build schools and hospitals, Mr Obama said.
The rapid economic growth in Africa was changing “old stereotypes” of a continent hit by war and poverty, he said.
But unemployment needed to be urgently tackled on a continent whose one-billion people will double in a few decades, Mr Obama said.
“We need only look to the Middle East and North Africa to see that large numbers of young people with no jobs and stifled voices can fuel instability and disorder,” he added.

Obama is considering the Ethiopian Black Lions for the White House (joke of the day)
Addis Ababa July 27, 2015: During a press conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegne President Obama dropped a nice joke about the black lions living in the Ethiopian national palace. This tradition dated back during King Hailesilasse era who used to have a domesticated black lions in his palace. Recently scientists conformed the same lionswho are kept in Addis Ababa Zoo and the Ethiopian palace are part of endangered animals list. Until today most Ethiopians do not have any clue these lions are still alive. People see the lions in the Addis Ababa Zoo but not inside the palace.
Today thank you for President Obama who unknowingly broke the news to the world. During King Haileselasse era those lions were the symbol of Ethiopia. Now you don't see those lions' images everywhere . Only one place you can see the lions image is on Ethiopian Airlines planes (it used to big but now very small and unnoticeable) and Addis Ababa city buses . These lions were the symbol of courage and heroism, sadly few people do not want to them again. At this time the Lion of Judah is more celebrated out side Ethiopia than in Ethiopia. Thank you for the Ras Teferain followers Lion of Judah is more alive than ever. Here is what Obama said during the press conference
" ...I had a chance to see the famous lions lives on the grounds I am considering some for the White House although I have to make sure my dogs are safe."

Obama Urges Ethiopia to 'Open Political Space' (VOA)
ADDIS ABABA—
President Barack Obama says the United States and Ethiopia are "strong partners" on many issues, but is urging the government to allow journalists and opposition parties to operate more freely.
In a news conference Monday with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Mr. Obama praised Ethiopia's economic record, noting the country has lifted millions out of dire poverty, and said Ethiopia has played a vital role in fighting the Somali militant group Al-Shabab.
The U.S. president said he also held "frank discussions" with the prime minister, and said opening space for journalists and opposition voices "will strengthen rather than inhibit" the ruling party's agenda.
Mr. Hailemariam said Ethiopia is committed to improving human rights and governance.
"Our commitment to democracy is real, not skin deep," he said.
Rights groups have called for Mr. Obama to demand reforms from Ethiopia, where the government controls 100 percent of the seats in parliament and keeps a tight leash on the media.
While in Addis Ababa, Mr. Obama is meeting with the leaders of Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and the African Union to discuss the civil war in South Sudan.
At the news conference, the U.S. president said conditions in South Sudan are getting "much, much worse," and said the United States and East African countries will discuss what can be done to forge a peace deal.
He said South Sudan's president and opposition leaders have been stubborn and are looking out for their own self-interest rather than the interest of their country.
President Obama is the first sitting U.S. president to visit Ethiopia.
President Obama said the U.S. will continue to work to advance Ethiopia's economic progress, human rights, governance and access to electricity.

Obama urges Ethiopia to curb crackdowns on media, opposition
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — President Barack Obama urged Ethiopia's leaders Monday to curb crackdowns on press freedom and political openness as he opened a trip that human rights groups say legitimizes an oppressive government
When all voices are being heard, when people know they are being included in the political process, that makes a country more successful," Obama said during a joint news conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
Ethiopia's prime minister defended his country's commitment to democracy.
"Our commitment to democracy is real — not skin deep," he said. Asked about his country's jailing of journalists, he said his country needed "ethical journalism" and reporters that don't work with terrorist organizations.
Ethiopia is the world's second-worst jailer of journalists in Africa, after Eritrea, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
When all voices are being heard, when people know they are being included in the political process, that makes a country more successful," Obama said during a joint news conference with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
Obama's trip marks the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to Ethiopia, a fast-growing economy once defined by poverty and famine.
Later Monday, Obama was to convene a meeting with African leaders on the crisis in South Sudan. The world's newest nation has been gripped by violence as warring factions in the government fight for power.
"The conditions on the ground are getting much, much worse," Obama said. He said if a peace agreement isn't reached by an Aug. 17 deadline, the U.S. and its partners would have to "consider what other tools we have."
Options under consideration include deepening economic sanctions and perhaps pursuing an arms embargo.
Obama arrived in Ethiopia late Sunday following a stop in Kenya, the country of his father's birth. The crisis in South Sudan and the human rights challenges on his agenda punctured a trip that had otherwise been a celebratory return of the first black U.S. president to Africa.
Despite Ethiopia's progress, there are deep concerns about political freedoms on the heels of May elections in which the ruling party won every seat in parliament.
Obama said he was frank in his discussions with Ethiopian leaders about the need to allow political opponents to operate freely. He also defended his decision to travel to the East African nation, comparing it to U.S. engagement with China, another nation with a poor human rights record.
"Nobody questions our need to engage with large countries where we may have differences on these issues," he said. "That's true with Africa as well."Ethiopia's prime minister defended his country's commitment to democracy.
Ahead of Obama's arrival, the Ethiopian government released several journalists and bloggers it had been holding since April 2014 on charges of incitement and terrorism. Many others remain in detention.

Bobbi Kristina Brown dies at 22
Atlanta (CNN)Two days before she was found face-down in the bathtub at her home outside Atlanta in January, it seemed like Bobbi Kristina Brown's career might have been picking up.
"Let's start this career up&&moving OUT to TO YOU ALLLL quick shall we !?!???!" she said in an enthusiastic tweet.
It's not clear what projects she may have been working on, but they won't be completed now.
Brown, the daughter of late superstar Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown, died Sunday at the age of 22, a representative of the Houston family said in a statement.
Brown was placed in a medically induced coma, relatives have said. Rumors flew about her condition, with family members and loved ones taking sides in the drama.
In April, her maternal grandmother, Cissy Houston, said Bobbi Kristina had "global and irreversible brain damage."
"Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me," Houston said. "We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time."
The statement was released days after her father and Whitney Houston's former husband, R & B singer Bobby Brown, told an audience in Dallas, "I can say today, Bobbi is awake. She's watching me."
On June 24, Bobbi Kristina's aunt, Pat Houston, announced that her niece had been moved to a hospice facility.
"Despite the great medical care at numerous facilities, Bobbi Kristina Brown's condition has continued to deteriorate," Houston's statement said. "As of today, she has been moved into hospice care. We thank everyone for their support and prayers. She is in God's hands now."
Many had worried the young woman was haunted by some of the same demons as her mother.
Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown married in 1992 and welcomed Bobbi Kristina in 1993. The little girl was doted upon by both her parents and Houston often brought the youngster on stage.
Houston told Rolling Stone magazine in 1993 that "having Bobbi Kristina ... I could never do anything that could top that. There's been nothing more incredible in my life than having her."
"God knows, I have been in front of millions and millions of people, and that has been incredible, to feel that give-take thing," Houston said. "But, man, when I gave birth to her and when they put her in my arms, I thought: 'This has got to be it. This is the ultimate.' I haven't experienced anything greater."
Mother and daughter grew even closer after Houston's divorce from Brown in 2007. Houston and Bobbi Kristina performed together on ABC's "Good Morning America" in 2009, singing "My Love Is Your Love" in Central Park.
After Houston's death on February 11, 2012 -- an accidental drowning in a bathtub, a coroner ruled, with heart disease and cocaine use named as contributing factors -- there was a great deal of concern for Brown, who was 18 at the time.
She opened up to Oprah Winfrey during an interview in March 2012 about how she was coping with the loss of her mother.
"No one knows what an amazing spirit she was," Brown told Winfrey. "She wasn't only a mother, she was a best friend."
Brown said her grief came in waves, but that she still communicated with her mom.
"I can hear her voice telling me to keep moving, baby, I gotcha," she said. "She's always with me. I can always feel her with me."
Brown was joined in her grief by Nick Gordon, who was taken in by Houston when he was 12 years old and who was raised alongside Bobbi Kristina.
Gordon and Brown became romantically involved after Houston's death, and tensions between the Gordon and Houston families over the relationship were part of the storyline on Lifetime's short-lived reality show "The Houstons: On Our Own."
There was speculation that Brown may have suffered from some of the same problems as her parents (both Houston and Brown had documented issues with substance abuse) after she appeared to be intoxicated during some scenes of the reality show.
Those concerns intensified in July 2014 after a picture was posted on her Instagram account showing a young woman who looked like Brown appearing to be smoking from a bong. The image had made the media rounds two years earlier.
Brown later denied that she posted the photo and tweeted that it was done by someone attempting to tarnish her image.
Brown and Gordon announced their engagement in 2013 and she took to her Facebook page to clear up the misconception that he was her adopted brother. Far from being bothered by the relationship were she still alive, Brown said her mother had predicted they would fall in love.
"People need to seriously stop judging my relationship," Brown wrote. "Pretty sure it's my own decision who I want to be with."
It was Gordon and a male friend who discovered Brown unconscious in her townhome. While Brown called Gordon her husband (she had tweeted a picture believed to be of their hands wearing wedding rings with the hashtag #HappilyMarried) there is no court record of a marriage between the two and family members say the couple was never legally wed.
Police had been called to Brown's home January 23 after someone reported a fight there, but no one answered the door and officers found no evidence of an altercation, a Roswell police spokeswoman said.
After Brown was found in the bathtub, authorities launched a criminal investigation. A family friend said police questioned Gordon about the bruising on Brown's chest and said he told them it was a result of his giving her CPR.
Gordon gave an emotional and sometime explosive interview that aired in March on the "The Dr. Phil Show" in which he complained of being denied access to Brown.
"I can't lose Krissy, I just can't," he cried.
The talk show host persuaded Gordon to enter a treatment program for substance abuse and in April his attorney, Randy Kessler, confirmed Gordon was no longer in rehab.
In June, a civil lawsuit was filed against Gordon in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia, alleging that Gordon's behavior "caused, among other things, substantial bodily harm to Brown." It also alleged that since Brown's hospitalization in January, Gordon accessed her bank accounts and stole more than $11,000. Brown was initially taken to North Fulton Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma, and was later transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, where she was on life support in the neuro intensive care unit. In March she was moved to a rehabilitation center.
Despite reports of fighting over her care, on June 19 Bobby Brown said the family was working together on behalf of his daughter.
"I am making decisions with (Bobbi Kristina's aunt) Pat Houston and we are working together for the medical care of my daughter," Brown said in a statement. "Right now we are focused on Bobbi Kristina's medical prognosis and the criminal investigation. These are the priorities for us. Whoever had a hand in causing my daughter's injuries needs to be brought to justice."
Her death cut short the dreams she had of following in her mother's footsteps by pursuing a career in music and acting. In 2012 she made her acting debut on Tyler Perry's TBS show "For Better or Worse." Perry is a close family friend who frequently visited Brown while she was hospitalized.

When America makes mistake China amplifies that mistake and showsit to the rest of the world
In Obama's Africa's trip China is like a shadow following every move and examining all propositions Obama is making. If any offer Obama makes China will double even triple it. Like if Obama promises to build a stadium in Africa , China will do two things. Firist it will offer a bigger money or it will offer a cheaper contract to build the stadium with the American money. In both ways China will be benefited from both offers.
Let me tell you my personal story. Three years ago after absence of several years from my county I went to Ethiopia. At first I was shocked by when I saw the entire Ethiopia was almost Made In China. The road, hotel, hospital, university, apartment , airport, stadium, mall and every thing I saw were built by Chinese Companies or Chinese made materials . When I went to shopping I was so surprised to see the entire shopping mall was full of Chinese products. One thing which made me surprise was all Made in China products were sold twice expensive than if they were/are sold in US market. In most shops I found out most items which had similar quality which are are sold in Amrica in cheap store called .99 Cents or Dollar stores. In current exchange rate 1$ USD is about 19.70 Birr or 22 Birr in black market. That means an item should be less than 25 Birr. However, in Ethiopians Store the minimum sale price was over 45 Birr. That means a $1 item is sold more than $2 in Africa.
This shows us China makes more money in Africa than in America. During my stay I tried to find a Made in USA item. The only place I saw MADE IN USA was in an empty cooking oil jar and empty sack which was donated from USAID. The rest are Made in China, Made in Japan (70-80% cars), Made in India (three wheeled taxis) and few European cars and clothing items.
But America is the biggest donor but that donation goes to hire or buy Chinese products. One of the biggest mistake for America was it sees itself as a donor instead of an investor and partner. I see here and there few Americans in Ethiopia but the majority of them were volunteers and working for NGOs. But while I was staying in Ethiopia I saw several Chinese worker who are assimilated in Ethiopian daily life and doing their business.
America is a power full and an influential nation on earth. Its invitation , creativity culture and tradition can move the entire universe to one direction. But sometimes Americans focus in one direction and leave the rest for field for others to take advantage of the situation. Now Obama's trip looks what I am taking about, he is trying to see African nations as US partners but not as looking them as donation receivers. We like it or not most African countries are trying to avoid seen as donation receivers. Now US should respect what their mission and encourage them to see them as potential partners. Because China, India, Turkey and Korea (South and North) are doing so. They build business as partners and inverters.
I started this journey in 1999. I called my journey "Africa the future frontier" . At that time I tried to approach few American companies but non of them gave me a positive answer. Most of them have a very distorted idea about Africa. Most American CEO's still think Africa is risk prone continent they will not even open their ears and eyes to hear about Africa. In their opinion Africa is full of war, starvation, disease and unsuitability. I stopped inviting them and waited then China came to game. China came in every direction and saw big opportunity where others refused to see. Today when Obama is visiting Africa , the presence of China is very huge. It starts from the airport where Air Force One is landed. If you see the cloth and shoes all the people wearing I beat 90% of it is Made In China . The road where his motorcade is heading is built by China, the hotel he is staying, the water he drinks may be filtered by Made in China water filtration machine. Mr President will see the huge presence of China when he tries to address the African Union. In AU the entire building (A-Z ) is built by China. May be the only thing which may not have Chinese presence could be American Embassies in Africa.
But why? Well, China and other nations who are investing in Africa nailed it. Because they know what African people want. The number one thing is genuine or fake Respect, that means they don't want to see a relation donor benefactor vs recipient, in the contrary they want see partnership. They want to be part of the process. Most young Africans think donation kills the progress of Africa and they don't want to see a pure humanitarian aspect of the donation but they see donation is indirect suppress and an extension of colonization designed to keep the Africans in trap.
Now, when we see China's approach they are coming from a different angle. May be a 90 degree angle. What they do is the come with problems and solutions. Let us say, if they want to build a hospital they will show how luck of hospital will kill people and they will propose a solution to build a single hospital . What they don't tell is they know if they build one hospital there will be 100 hospitals. needed So they will give the first hospital free or very less value. When the politicians see the effect of one hospital every region needs it and they will secure the contract for 100 hospitals. If the country does not have money they will give loan and they will ask free land or mineral right That way they build, they will dig and mine and the will keep controlling power. In the process you will see tangible things build but do not ask me about quality and durability.
China way of taking money is not a thing I wish for US. but there is a pure way of expanding opportunities with out compromising values. Africa has untapped human resource, buying power and very vibrant young generation. If US focuses on using this very productive generation for a potential partner that will be huge success. Africans love to buy American products and work for American companies. But still lots of American companies are not ready to be part of this action. I hope Obama's visit should open their eyes and ears.
But America should make a fundamental change how it sees Africa. It needs a groundbreaking policy change to bring Africans and Americans together. One thing we need to learn from China is we (US) should not interfere with African country's internal affair. Yes America has a huge power but sometimes we need to know when to use that power. If we try to impose our ideology on African counties internal affair that will back fire and other countries may amplify the issue to use it against us.
So as a concerned citizen and an Ethiopian American my advice is Mr Obama when you are visiting any African country the first thing is we need to respect people's culture, value and tradition and we need to stop to impose our internal policies in those countries.

Obama is in Ethiopia. His brother who is living in Ethiopa greeted him
Air Force One landed at ADD (Bole) international airport on Sunday Ethiopian time. It was a rainy day. According to Ethiopian Broadcasting Service English program (live) Obama was greeted by senior member Ethiopian Government, the Ethiopia prime minster and his older brother. Yes, for our surprise Mr. President has an older brother who is living in Ethiopia a boarder city called Moyale which is near to Kenya

In Ethiopia when you see a rainbow it is a sign of Mary's Cincture/Belt
Each body gesture, sign, word usage, pitch, eye movement and other communication methods may have different meaning from place to place, some are universal others are just local, when we see such kind of variations we call them localization.
It is the same for rainbow in the sky. In some places rainbow is a sign of unity , Good luck and greetings. For example if you see a rainbow in Ethiopia's sky we call it Yemariam Mekonen or Mary's Cincture/Belt. It is a sign of God's presence in the area but not as others are trying to interpreting. That is a wrong interpretation. Bet way is before you put your own weak interpretation study about people's values, culture and tradition. Also respect their tradition is a key to be respected
